How Much Does a Driveway Cost in Leicester?
A driveway quote tells you much more than the cost of the visible surface. Two Leicester homes with the same sized front garden can need very different excavation, foundations and drainage. This guide gives you a starting budget and explains what to check before choosing an installer.
What should I budget for a new driveway?
As a national guide published in April 2026, Checkatrade estimates around £90/m² for tarmac, £100/m² for block paving and £120/m² for resin bound, including typical materials and installation. The figures are useful for comparing materials, but they are not Pavemaster prices or a promise that a full excavation and drainage scheme is included.

These totals are simply area multiplied by the national guide rate. They are not all-inclusive Leicester quotes. Excavating a failing driveway, taking material away, rebuilding a base, adding drainage or installing a vehicle crossing can change the total considerably. Premium blocks, complex borders and awkward access can do the same.
Why can two Leicester driveway quotes differ so much?
The first question is what lies beneath the existing surface. A driveway with a sound, suitable base may call for a different specification from one with settled paving, soft ground or standing water. Covering an unstable base may make it look new without solving the cause of failure.
The next questions are practical. How wide is the access for machinery? Will the old surface need removing? Are steps, retaining edges or garden levels changing? Where will rainwater go? Is the price based on a small area with many cuts or a larger, straightforward rectangle? A driveway in a closely built-up street can present different access and drainage problems from a wide suburban plot; the postcode alone cannot settle the price.
What should a written quote include?
Ask the installer to specify the measured area; removal and disposal of existing materials; proposed excavation and sub-base; surface type and finish; borders; drainage and where water will discharge; treatment of thresholds and existing paths; VAT; and the expected work schedule. If a dropped kerb is needed, ask who handles the application and approved crossing works. Do not compare a surface-only figure with a full replacement quote as though they cover the same job.
